Annual Labor & Employment Law Update
DESCRIPTION/COURSE OVERVIEW
Join us for the annual labor and employment law update, where we will discuss a variety of labor and employment law topics, highlighting notable developments from 2025 and the first quarter of 2026, and look ahead to what’s expected as 2026 marches forward. Topics will include developments and enforcement initiatives at federal agencies (EEOC, NLRB, DOL), an update on DEI and discrimination/harassment claims, discussion of select Supreme Court and Pennsylvania cases, Pennsylvania state law updates, and more!

Kelley E. Kaufman, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
Kelley regularly defends clients before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission and the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Board of Review, as well as in employment-related litigation in federal and state court. Kelley also provides day-to-day counseling to employers on a wide range of labor and employment law topics, including issues relating to compliance with federal and state employment discrimination laws, wage and hour obligations, family and medical leave, employee relations, non-compete and separation agreements, employee performance management, unemployment compensation, employee benefits, litigation avoidance, and more. In addition, Kelley frequently conducts training for clients, contributes to McNees’ Pennsylvania Labor & Employment blog, and participates in multiple speaking engagements each year.
Sarah J. McGowan, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC
Sarah J. McGowan practices in the Labor and Employment Law Practice Group at McNees. She assists employers with navigating state and federal employment laws and regulations and assists with counseling clients on a range of workplace claims and litigation, including Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) compliance, accommodating employees with disabilities, labor matters, employment discrimination and harassment concerns, occupational safety and health, wage and hour compliance, and unemployment compensation.
Prior to joining McNees, Sarah gained 10 years of experience in several public sector legal roles. Most recently, she served as a law clerk in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania and, before that, the Court of Common Pleas of York County, where she drafted judicial opinions, managed substantial caseloads, and prepared cases for conferences, hearings, and trials.
Sarah also previously served as university legal counsel for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PSSHE), where she provided day-to-day counseling on various legal matters ranging from labor and employment issues to athletics, real estate, business transactions, student affairs, public record requests, and policy development and review.

This session has been submitted for recertification credits with SHRM and HRCI. Chapter members in good standing with their dues and non-members that have paid the nominal fee will receive these credits if in attendance for a minimum of 150 minutes of the program.
